Holy Spirit Baptism

What is it?

Jesus told His apostles, "John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit." (Acts 1:5) Peter exhorted in Acts 2:38, "Repent and be baptized, everyone of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit...Those who accepted his message were baptized and about three thousand were added that day." Baptism with the Holy Spirit is a release of the power of the Spirit that was bestowed on us at our water baptism and confirmation (The New Life in the Spirit Seminars Team Manual - Catholic Edition 2000). Bishop Sam Jacobs in his audio tape 'Baptism of the Holy Spirit' said that water baptism and baptism of the Holy Spirit are considered one baptism. The Nicene Creed also states one baptism.

Benefits Of A Holy Spirit Baptism

1. You will receive power. When Jesus ascended into heaven, He inspired His disciples, "When the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will receive power and you will be my witnesses…to the ends of the earth." (Acts 1:8). You will receive power for spiritual transformation and greater holiness. The apostles were weak and fearful. After baptism with the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, they became bold and they evangelized. By being holy we can be forever united with Him on earth and in heaven. You will receive power for service. After baptism with the Holy Spirit, the apostles performed healings, miracles and conversions in the name of Jesus. One is given any or many of the 25 gifts of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 12:8-10, Rom. 12:6, Is. 11:2) such as faith, wisdom, healing, miracles, prophecy, teaching, ministry, almsgiving, acts of mercy, administration, etc. Such gifts are for building the body of Christ and the church for His glory.

2. Your relationship with Jesus will be more intimate and personal.

3. You will have physical, spiritual healings or material blessings.

4. Your prayers will be more powerful. Ja. 5:16 states, "The prayers of a righteous person are very powerful." As one is transformed in serving Him and others, so the more he becomes righteous.

5. You gain a better understanding and more enthusiasm for the scripture, mass and church teachings.

The other benefits were also received by the apostles after their baptism with the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Since 1967 more than 100,000 Catholics received baptism of the Holy Spirit after repentance and praying a prayer of commitment which was part of their Life in the Spirit seminar. They experienced the above benefits. Everyone is encouraged to attend a Life in the Spirit seminar. About 400,000 other Christians received baptism of the Holy Spirit after repentance and praying a prayer of commitment, receiving Christ in their hearts and lives, and acknowledging Him as their Lord and Savior.

I have served Him in many capacities and have received many honors. At 89 years old, I am the president of the Apostleship of Prayer in our vicariate (20 towns). Thanks and glory to Him." Prepare Yourself Before Saying The Miracle Prayer

Before we receive Christ in our hearts and lives by praying the Miracle Prayer or Prayer of Commitment, let us recall our sins, truly repent of them and ask for His forgiveness. (Pause). Let us cast all our burdens and hurts to God and He will sustain us (Ps. 55:22). Let us forgive others so He will forgive our trespasses (Mt. 6:14). Then we will be in union with Him and receive His blessings.

Let us pray this Miracle Prayer with our heart and soul. Envision Jesus embracing and overwhelming you with His awesome love and mercy. Ask Him to empower you with His Holy Spirit for holiness and service for Him, the Church and others. Read "Growth and Sanctification in Christ" after the Miracle Prayer and Petitions.
