POPE JOHN PAUL II  INSPIRES

At his weekly general audience last August 9, Pope John Paul II extolled  personal encounter with Christ.

He said that "above all it  makes penitence and love blossom."

It makes the person "a new creature, capable of true worship which consists in adoring the Father in spirit and in  truth."

It often means finding physical healing.

Christ empowered His disciples to heal the sick because he "came to seek, meet and save the whole man."

Christ is present in His followers through the word, "a word which calls, which invites, which personally asks, as happened with the apostles."

He is also present in them through the Eucharist, the "source of love, of  unity and of salvation."

GOD'S HEALINGS IN EUROPE, ASIA AND USA

By Lorna Lisk

 WUPC Founder-President

Inspired by the Holy Spirit, I proclaim His healings at the healing services I conducted the past year with the help of my husband Thom in five countries, 11 cities and six towns in Europe, Asia and USA before approximately 4,500  people.

Just before Jesus ascended to heaven, He encouraged His disciples, "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses …to the ends of the earth." Acts 1:8 The Gentiles and early Christians would not have believed that Jesus is God the Son (Mt. 11:4). were it not for the testimonies of  people he healed and those who saw and heard about His miracles and healings. We might not also be Christians today and possess the gift of salvation. Being His witnesses now is just as vital now as it was then because: it is a very significant tool for the conversion of non-believers and lukewarm Christians. Pope Paul VI said, "Today's church needs more witnesses than teachers."

In Quezon City, Philippines at St. Ignatius Cathedral, God instantly healed a totally deaf person. I did not even lay hands on him. For the past three years of our healing services, He has healed 10 people with deafness in one ear and a 3-year old boy who was a deaf-mute. (Fr. Danny Pajarillaga gave a testimonial letter for this). In Maui, Hawaii, a 6-year-old boy was healed of deafness in his left ear. A lady with perforated eardrum due to surgery could not hear. She was able to do so instantly after prayers at the healing service for the large Westminster Cathedral Prayer Community in London, England last December 7. The next day at the London charismatic diocesan healing service, Sister Elaine received a healing of severe hearing loss in one ear. Since childhood a man could hardly hear with his right ear. Jesus healed him at our healing service for the charismatic diocese of Rome, Italy. Close to 80 people (most of them from the Philippines) were instantly healed of severe and mild hearing loss during our healing services the past one and a half years. Glory to our Miracle Worker!

Luke 4:18 avers, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me. He has sent me to proclaim...recovery of sight to the blind." This was manifested in Zaleski, Ohio, where Jesus healed Luke, a 6-year-old boy of legal blindness in both eyes. Fr. David Gwinner, the parish priest of St. Sylvester Church was amazed. During the past three years of our healing services, our Lord has instantly healed eight blind people - four of them  totally blind. Three years later these people have retained their healing. He instantly healed two blind sisters from the Houston, Texas area at their healing service. One sister was totally blind. The other sister, Dominga Meza, reported, "I had two surgeries and an implant for my left eye, but I still could not see. Now I can see. My sister can also see. Glory to God!" For the past year Jesus has instantly healed about 100 people of blurred vision and some of cataract.

Praise the Holy Spirit who has also been healing lumps and cancer. At the healing service for the diocese of central Indiana, He instantly healed Elizabeth of painful lump in her arm, which had bothered her for many years. Even after eight months her lump has not recurred. A pastor Rev. Zosimo Jadloc had colon cancer and did not undergo treatment. One month after the healing service in July, 1999, his cancer went into remission. In a written testimony he wrote that the cancer  has not recurred to this day.

Our Savior bestowed spiritual healing to many as well. People were lifted from their heavy burden of anger, unforgiveness, fear, jealousy, pride, anxiety, depression, addictions, etc. At a healing service for the Dublin, Ireland charismatic diocese, our Deliverer freed three people from the spirit of suicide and depression. They realized that suicide is a grave mortal sin that would separate them from God forever leading  them to hell with endless horrific suffering. "He heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds." (Ps. 14:3). At the London charismatic diocesan renewal and healing service, a drug addict who was very weary of his way of life, decided to accept Jesus into his life and live a new life in Him.

Mt. 15:30, 31 states, "He cured them…the lame walking, the blind able to see, and they glorified the God of Israel. Today, Jesus has also been healing stroke victims confined to wheelchairs and those walking with canes. A lady in the Philippines could not walk nor lift her arm due to stroke. Instantly after prayers, she was able to step out of her wheelchair, walk normally and raise her arms. At the healing service for the charismatic diocese of central Indiana, a stroke victim was healed of numbness on the left side of his body and neck pain. A month later he was busy witnessing God's healing to others. A lady in London with severe leg pain and three others in the Philippines with canes were instantly healed of pain by our Healer and no longer needed canes.

Several hundreds of  people were instantly healed of pain in various parts of their bodies in all places we did healing services. There was consequent healing of diseases that caused the pain like gout, arthritis, bursitis, and injury. At the Pious Workers-Sisters of the Immaculate Conception Convent in Rome where I did a healing service for nuns, one nun had severe pain and could barely walk with crutches. Instantly after prayers, she could walk without them, devoid of pain. A very high percentage of the people healed of pain and other illnesses have maintained their healing. Pain recurred to those who resumed lifting heavy objects or exercised very soon.

I performed a healing service for a charismatic prayer group of seminarians led by Fr. Richard Tomasek, spiritual formation director of Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio. In his letter, he wrote of God's two healings noted by two seminarians. See details in "WUPC Founder Named Catholic Woman of the Year" article below.

Other diseases healed by Him are high blood pressure, allergy, vertigo, insomnia, numbness, chronic diarrhea, and colds.

Of the 4,500 people who attended the healing services about 3,000 received Christ in their hearts and committed their lives to Him. The rest recommitted their lives.

Healing services were also held the past year for the charismatic diocese of Birmingham, Alabama, in Washington, D.C., Chicago  and Cincinnati, Ohio.

We pray that everybody's witness about Him and His marvelous deeds hasten the  salvation of  all His people.

WUPC FOUNDER-PRESIDENT  NAMED

CATHOLIC WOMAN OF THE YEAR

By Melinda Harty, Ph.D.

Lorna Lisk, founder-president of Worldwide United Prayer for Christ, was named Catholic Woman of the Year for the diocese of Columbus, Ohio last August 25. She also has healing and evangelism ministry nationally and internationally. The award was given by the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women. The top three finalists were given to Bishop James Griffin. Mrs. Lisk and her husband Thom traveled last December to Europe where she conducted healing services to five different large groups (three diocesan) in London, Dublin, Ireland and Rome. She has conducted healing services and given talks with Thom in Ohio, in 21 large cities in 16 states and in five countries. Fr. Richard Tomasek, spiritual formation director of Pontifical College Josephinum, Columbus, Ohio  gave a nomination support letter. He thanked God for His two healings at a  healing service of Lisk before the charismatic prayer group of seminarians that he leads. One seminarian "had two relatively serious conditions that have entirely disappeared after (your) prayer, according to his next and continuing medical check-ups. The other seminarian…stood in proxy for his father, who was bed-ridden with neuropathy, especially affecting his feet. Very shortly afterward, his dad was up and walking, with pain subsiding substantially, even as he continued medication." Pope John Paul II said that personal encounter with Christ often means finding physical healing. Another support document cites that at her other healing services God has been instantly healing the blind, deaf, lame, those with pain, other diseases.

WUPC which she founded eight years ago has been promoted in 50 countries. She is lector of her St. Peter parish, was chairperson of Women's Day of Renewal for the diocesan Catholic Charismaitc Renewal and has chaired other diocesan events. She prays for people at the diocesan charismatic monthly masses. For more than 12 years, she is founder-leader of a 500-member diocesan charismatic Prayer Chain. She and her husband hosted a weekly one-hour Catholic radio program that was broadcast to a potential audience of about 22 million in the Philippines for six months. She is coordinator of several Rosary groups in Ohio and other states. For her educational background, she has a degree of B.S. Chemical Engineering, M.S. in Chemistry and she had been listed in the World Who's Who of Women.

Lisk said of her award, "My prayer is that this will highlight the need for daily prayer by all for world salvation, peace, the Church, victory and protection from rampant evil in the world. I pray that more people will experience Jesus' healing love,  accept Him as Savior in their lives and focus more on having eternal happiness with Him and not just on earthly needs. Lisk is married to Thom, a Catholic Man of the Year runner-up and recipient of the Norman Vincent Peale award last year. She has three sons, all medical doctors, and two grandchildren. Fr. James Coleman, her spiritual director, in a support letter said"Christ can use an army of Lorna Lisks in His work of salvation."

MESSAGE FROM WUPC SPIRITUAL DIRECTOR

By Fr. James Coleman, PIME

All of us are called to prayer and discipleship especially at these critical times. We should persevere in prayer as St. Monica who prayed for 37 years for her son, who became St. Augustine. Our prayers will bear much fruit.

In Mt. 28:20 we are commissioned by Jesus to make disciples of all nations. There is a cost to discipleship . Because of this many people turn away , but if they they were to think further, the cost of undiscipleship is far greater. The evils of undiscipleship are as long as A through Z like Abortion, Divorce, Drugs, Pornography, etc. People involved in these do not realize the magnanimity of the effect of their actions. The world is a pool. Everything everyone does affects everybody else.

People around us and our family are  entrusted to us by God. We are supposed to love and value them. We are our brother's keeper (Ezek.33:7-9). Let us watch out for one another.

Let us, therefore, be truly His disciples and intensify our prayers.

MIRACLE PRAYER TESTIMONY

I had pinched nerve around my eye (for four months). The pain went from my shoulder to my toes. I felt what seemed like needles sticking in my body up and down. I started praying the Miracle Prayer (and Petitions) with my heart and soul. I was about to start my physical therapy, but thank God, all my pain disappeared. - B. Powell, Ohio

NOBLE LEADERSHIP©

By Thom Lisk, BA, LHD,CSE

Here are quotes/excerpts from "Noble Leadership," a new book of Thom Lisk. He  is the 2001 Catholic Man of the Year Runner Up in the Catholic diocese of Columbus, Ohio and the recipient of Norman Vincent Peale Award for 2001.

  1. Success is knowing and doing God's will - being His light and salt.

  2. "The good you DO today, people will often forget tomorrow, DO good anyway." Mother Teresa

  3. A noble leader takes God's high positions and is willing to change.

  4. Effective leaders get better - not bitter as they experience adversity.

  5. Guide yourself by God's instructions away from sin and towards perfection of heart. The soil of your heart  will become more receptive to truth - you will be happier, more successful and (you will) produce a big harvest.

  6. Ideally, your thoughts, motives and actions improve as you give yourself to others.

  7. Seek to understand and you will be understood. Leaders must understand what motivates people. As a result you will be understood when you communicate and motivate.

  8. Developing leaders can take time and a commitment from a team of people. If you invest to develop leaders you will gain far more than you spend. The rewards are long lasting.

  9. God does not sow seed arbitrarily. or scatter seed and hope that it flourishes. He takes a person that He knows will submit to His will, obey Him, and do what is needed or required - someone He can trust - and then He shapes this person for leadership.

  10. Great people are ordinary people with extraordinary amount of determination. They simply don't know how to quit. They just keep on "keeping on." Hang in there!

  11. Make life count today.  - you can't tell for sure what will happen tomorrow. Go for it perfectly now!

  12. Love other people long enough to help them succeed and you will be a noble success also.

  13. Dreams come true when people are teamed in agreement while bound by the Light of Love.

  14. Noble leadership to me is Christ - centered since Christ is the King of kings.

WHY SOME PEOPLE ARE NOT HEALED,   PART II

(Part I in 2001 Newsletter)

Part I

In the last issue cited the following reasons why people, at times, do not get their healing:

  1. Lack of faith.

  2. Presence of sin including unforgiveness.

  3. Tested in the furnace of afflictions (Is. 48:10).

  4. Refining like silver (Is. 48:10). Many are closer to God when they are ill and have needs.

  5. More healings take place with united prayer and through people with gifts of healing.

Part II

  1. We share in the suffering of Christ for the redemption of mankind. Saints had undergone trials and tribulation, but ultimately, they  had spiritual victory in Christ.

  2. The Lord's Timing. Eccl. 3:3 states, "There is a time for everything on earth." Sometimes emotional and spiritual healing have to happen first before physical healing occurs. An ulcer patient was healed after her emotional hurts were resolved and after she had forgiven her husband.

  3. Healings are Negated. A man is instantly healed of severe back pain caused by lifting of heavy objects after a healing service. He resumed carrying heavy furniture right away. The pain healed by our Lord resurfaced. A lady had instant healing of shoulder pain, but went back to her exercising routine the day after.  The knee pain returned.

  4. Limiting God in  His Method of Healing - In His days, Jesus healed people in various ways. There are people who are not open to confide the details of their illness or problem. At times, God imparts His wisdom and solution for the illness or problem to the one praying. Wisdom is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 12). The ones being prayed for sometimes would say, "Just pray for me, " not due to desire for privacy but because they think that God will instantly heal them and that this is the only way He heals. The  one   praying  could  be getting insight or wisdom from Him  that could help heal the illness. stress, for instance,  could be causing his physical illness after knowing the facts and details. In this case God's healing is missed.

  5. There is a Gradual Healing - Some people are healed over a period of  time. This is still a healing and one should continue to pray.

  6. It is Time For One to Meet His Maker - It is time for one's earthly life to end and go to that mansion prepared for him by the Lord (John 14:1-3) and have eternal happiness with Him. It is very vital to pray for the spiritual healing and salvation of this person  and for all others.
